East Africa has experienced a rise in both natural and human-made disasters in recent years, ranging from flooding to theft and fires caused by electrical faults. These incidents have caused severe impacts on lives, livelihoods, economies, and infrastructure.

This workshop is designed to address these urgent challenges by equipping the participants with practical, comprehensive disaster management skills. Through focused sessions on flood response, security risk mitigation, and fire prevention, the training aims to strengthen the region’s capacity to prevent, prepare for, and respond effectively to such crises.

We opened the training with warm welcomes and insightful words from the organizers: International Council of Museums (ICOM), ICOM Africa, ICOM Kenya, Agentur für Internationale Museumskooperation, and the National Museums of Kenya. A big shout-out to the woman who made it all happen: Betty Karanja!
